5 Reasons why you should not depend on Expert Reviews

Reviews! Reviews! Reviews. Every Where you will get free reviews online for whatever product, software you need. But how reliable are these reviews? How much does it is going to help you? Especially for Software and Product reviews from top Technology Sites and Magazine Sites.

If you carefully observe the reviews published in websites like thinkdigit.com, pcworld.com. download.com, cnet.com and lot many review websites on net you can notice the clear difference. Most of these reviewer doesn’t have any idea what really the customers are looking for in a product. Though most of the reviewers publish how they conduct tests to come at a conclusion very few are bothered read it. Of course it’s not the fault of reviewers if readers ignore the basis of test. If you read the basis of test then only you can conclude whether this review is going to help you or not.

1. Speed and Capacity of System
Most of these reviewers have a latest systems with high capacity and speed. They test the software or hardware in these hi-fi systems and give a conclusion. But does it really helps majority of users? probably no. Because not everyone have a sophisticated high speed systems. Most of the users have systems with average or even slow systems. And the review doesn’t help you.

2. Knowledge of the User
The reviewers have excellent knowledge about using systems. They in fact have maintained their systems properly with all the necessary requirements. But an average user have average knowledge about system and most of the time the systems are not properly maintained.  An average users perspective will not be available with expert reviews. For example an Antivirus review. You should not install Avira Antivirus (An older version) on a system which is already attached by lot of virus. The Found virus window keep popping up no matter how many times you click delete and remember this answer. But none of the reviewers ever warn about this kind of bug.

3. Gap in the features reviewed and actually required.
This is in fact one of the major issue. While the reviewers test the product based on their belief of what is important but the user have less importance for such features. For example most of the reviews about DVD Writers concentrate on the speed of DVD Burning. But reliability and durability is what most of the users required then only comes the speed. Today most of the DVD Burners die within 3 months some are not even able to write some 100 DVDs. But none of the reviews covered this major feature.

4. Experts are also have prejudice
After all experts are also human beings who have prejudice about a product. Unless there is a huge gap in the expected result they may not be notice the differences. Experts may not give a unbiased review which is quite important for any review.

5. Have personal Interest
Not that every reviewer have personal interest (I mean gains) in reviewing a product. But we cannot rule out the fact that providing favorable reviews may be a good source of income. As large base of customers rely on experts reviews the company might bribe or offer something to make the review favorable to them.
One important thing that I look for before making any decision is user reviews. Users may not give a overall lengthy reviews but their one liners are very helpful in making decisions. They are the common people who use the product on day to day basis and they can give a clear picture on quality and features of the product.
